If you are brand new to Etsy, and I mean, BRAND new as in, you haven’t yet opened an Etsy shop but are planning on doing so, here are some tips you can follow so that you don’t get stuck in the process.
Have Items Ready to List
When you first set up shop on Etsy, you’ll be required to add at least 1 listing. Ideally though, when someone sees your shop for the first time, they don’t want to see just one item. They like to see that you have a few items for sale.
Consider having at least 5-10 items ready to list.
What does this mean?
This means that for these 5-10 items, you have:
- Photos/Images of each of these items. Ideally 5 photos for each item ready to go.
- You have descriptions written for each of these items.
- You have your titles written for each of these items.
- You have your tags for these items.
- You know the prices of each of these items.
Be Consistent in Listing New Products
Etsy likes to see that shop owners are always updating and adding listings to their shops. It shows that you’re invested and care about your business.
Aside from this, each new item gets a temporary boost in Etsy so that they can figure out how visitors interact with your listing. New listings don’t have any history, Etsy doesn’t know if your listing will get clicks, favorites or purchases so the way that Etsy tries to discover how well your listing will do, is to place it in front of people to get an idea.
This then helps them ascertain where in the overall listings they should place your new item.
Etsy success will not happen overnight. I know this sounds like a broken record, but consistency really is the key to success on Etsy. Keep plugging away and don’t get discouraged.
